We've gone back and forth for a while -- keep the cable television, let it go, ... no let's keep it,... no let's cut it now. I remember missing HBO when we cut that -- I was hopelessly hooked on the Sopranos.
For a variety of reasons, including now having a small child, we've decided that now's the time to cut it.
The call has been made. After this month, we'll have about 12 channels instead of a gazillion. How will we survive?
What I'll miss:
Comedy Central
Monk
Cable news
Cooking shows
Home improvement shows
The occasional good movie, including the 5-millionth showings of Coming to America and Office Space.
What I won't miss:
Boobs everywhere
Half a gazillion channels showing violence
"Television for women" - at least that's what they call it... I call it the victim's channel
The Poker channel
I'm sure I'll go through some kind of withdrawal period, but we'll survive. With the weather getting nicer, we'll be outside a lot more. I plan to do more reading, too, when the little one is sleeping & I'm not.
Have you ever cut your cable? Do you miss it? If you haven't cut it, what do you think you'd miss if you cancelled it?

We cut the cable... we get maybe 5 channels now and I don't watch a one of them. Do I miss anything? Trading Spaces and While You Were Out. The occasional movie...maybe a Hallmark Hall of Fame production.
Will we ever have cable again? Maybe if they ever go to an a la carte option, where we can pick and choose the channels we get.

heh. We call it the victim network, too!
Cutting the cable is not an option because we use the broadband and they would charge us almost as much just for the broadband without the cable......
Don't worry, Karen, TS is awful now. You're not missing anything.

Karen,
Yes! A la carte... please!!
Caltechgirl,
Yeah, you know my broadband will go up a bit, and I'm hoping that's not a problem... my employer picks up the tab on that!

Heh, the vivtim's channel.. Good one. We have TiVo so not much channel surfing goes on in our home. I would seriously miss the Travel Channel & the History Channel. We watch those alot. We have the Starz channels, but there is never anything on that I want to see.
BTW- this is Jody, I'm on Doug's computer & I don't want to change the settings!

Hello, Michele sent me. I've never had a TV, let alone cable. And I get on OK. In fact I don't know how people find time to watch all that TV!

Hello, Michele sent me but I have already visited before!
I couldn't live without my cable here in England or I would be stuck with only 5 channels and rarely of anything of interest to watch. I don't watch the telly very often but it is so nice to have the option when I am in the mood just to chill out in front of it!

Hiya, I'm a regular reader but today...

I would not miss a thing - 3 channels are enough for me - but the Hubster likes his HBO! Marriage is compromise - LOL.
Michelle sent your way!

Hey, Marie, I'm back as always, but this time Michele sent me.
We have a very limited cable package, so we already miss ESPN. If we cut what we have, the adults would miss the sports channels that we do get, and our daughter would miss Disney and the Cartoon Network.

I have cable even though I don't watch that much tv. Even HBO has nothing worth watching anymore. I'm waiting for the next season of The Wire to start, but that won't be until next January! Now, the high speed internet....THAT I couldn't live without! (Michele sent me.)

Hi, Marie. Congrats on being Michele's site of the day!
You are a far braver woman than I -- good luck with the cable withdrawal!

How's this for weird, I've never had cable. I'm sure I'd end up watching way too much t.v. if I did.
Oh and hello, Michele sent me!

Good morning, Michele sent me.
I have lived with no cable before, but I was single, childless and lived alone. That's no longer the case and though I could live without it, Sweetie is an absolute TV junkie. It would not be pretty if I were to do it now.

Hello everyone! Thanks so much for visiting! I can't believe I have a post up with the word "boobs" in it when I'm Michele's site of the day. Must post something else...
In the meantime, please make yourselves at home. Tea, anyone?

Hello, Michele sent me!
I grew up without cable TV, but I love having it now. We just don't have the premium channels like HBO. Part of me would love to, but I'd just get too addicted.

Hello, Michele sent me.
I gave up TV for Lent 3 years running, and never really got back into the habit of it after the last time. I don't miss it. I read, and surf the net, and enjoy the quiet. Good luck!

*laughs at victom network! I can't stand that channel! I have cable, but to be honest I don't know why. I hardly ever watch television anymore. Well, I do watch the Daily show every night before bed, so I would miss my comedy channel!

Hi! came by from Michele. My friend is the location scout for the Sopranos and my other friend used to massage some of the actors. I misst FOODTV, Living TV and Comedy Central.

Hello-Michele sent me.I bow to you for having the courage to cut the cable.I wish I could.I would get killed by the many cable addicted housemembers. Maybe I will just use it as a threat for awhile!!

Hello Michele sent me. We have cut the cable twice but always put it or satellite back. It was too frustrating when there finally was something we wanted to watch that was on and not being able to because we didn't have that channel. Besides, I am not giving up Cartoon Network ever again. I need my daily dose of the Powerpuff Girls.

I would so love to cut the cable! I, too, am dreaming of an a la carte system so we could eliminate the channels that are shit. The only reason I keep cable is for the movie channels (I love HBO!) and for Bravo. The rest I could do without.
I've considered doing away with it, but, like Tommy, I know there would be many times when I would miss something I really wanted to see (and I really don't watch much TV). It's a trap, it is.
Good for you for breaking free—oh, Michele sent me!

I do no think I would ever let HBO go. Their programing is superb. And Bravo and The West Wing are daily sustenance.
