She pulls out of the driveway, heading off for some evening errands. There's a man heading down her residential street with a shopping cart, gathering returnables from the recycling bins placed by the street. Hmm. She's never seen that happen here in the burbs; she saw it lots when she lived in the city. She looks at her house before driving away and sees her husband in the doorway. He's watching the activity too.
Upon returning from the library and grocery store, she mentions the incident to him.
She says: So how about that? I've never seen anyone cruise our street with a shopping cart for returnables before. That was a first.
He says: Yeah, he stopped in front of our house.
She: Really?
He: Yeah, he pulled out his PDA and was marking off all the houses he'd already been to.
She: REALLY?
......You'd think she'd know better by now.

It happens in the burbs here weekly. Mostly it's an elderly gentleman who patrols the recycle bins, but sometimes it's a grungy-looking dude in a pickup. I like the ones who scour the neighborhoods looking for cast-offs. Once we put a non-working lawnmower out and some guy took it. We were relieved to see it go, perhaps to a guy who could fix it himself. The next day, the mower was BACK in front of our house!

Nat,
That was probably my husband. We have a collection of mower & snow blower pieces & parts that you wouldn't believe... I wish I were kidding!
Katie,
Now THERE's an idea! Thanks for the tip!
Muzik,
Shoulda known! Nice to see you! It'll be me out there collecting before long..
Raehan,
You too? I always catch myself the second it's out of my mouth...
Lucinda,
A PDA is a Personal Digital Assistant - Palm Pilots & things like that are PDAs.
