There's a virtual baby shower going on for Lindsay at Suburban Turmoil! Lindsay's new son is due in a couple of weeks, so she's in that wonderful home stretch of pregnancy. Yep. Stretched skin. Stretch pants. Stretched everything. At least that's how it was for me! Our shower's hostess, MommaK has asked us to bare our souls, or our baby-bearing belly photos, in honor of this glorious occasion.
Ahem. So, while I can neither confirm nor deny that this humongous belly was once a part of me, I will offer a word of caution: if you click to make that giant belly even bigger, make sure you're wearing sunglasses. Don't say I didn't warn you! I think even my own mother was grossed out by this photo. And I dare you to try and find a button on that belly!
Coincidentally, my due date was March 1st, 3 years ago. My baby didn't arrive "on time," though my doctor told me I might not even make it to the due date. But he also told me I'd have an average size baby and no problems delivering him. Wrong! and wrong! As you can clearly see, I was about to give birth to an over-sized basketball.
It was a hectic home stretch for us, what with my husband ripping apart our kitchen and all, six weeks prior to my due date (his own nesting frenzy, which was precipitated by my dishwasher mandate). But the new floor, cupboards, counter-top, sink, and (most importantly) the new dishwasher were all in place by March 1st. And we had the backup generator ready and waiting (my other request, in lieu of a prepared "nursery"). Remember, this is PractiGal here.
March 2nd and 3rd came and went, as did the 4th and 5th. I stopped answering the phone somewhere in there. Overdue women aren't known for their senses of humor. "Oh, yeah! We had the baby and forgot to call you -- oops! Sure, come on over -- he'll be in kindergarten any day now. You'd better hurry!" Finally, at my doctor's appointment on the 9th, we were sent to the hospital. I was well dilated, and had been having occasional contractions for days. I didn't know it was labor though! Frankly, I think my doctor did something to speed things along at that exam. Thank God.
Anyway, we got our suitcases and headed for the hospital. The rest is history, and we welcomed our beautiful son bright and early on March 10th, 2004. All 8 lbs, 13 oz and 22 inches of him.
And soon, Lindsay will be announcing the arrival of her little boy. She may even be live-blogging the birthing event! How cool would that be? No pressure, Lindsay, but I'm getting the popcorn ready over here...
I hope you get to meet your new little love very soon, Lindsay! And that the final days of pregnancy are as comfortable as they can be for you. Of course your Proven Pelvis will ensure a safe and smooth delivery.
Best wishes to you and your family, Lindsay!!

I can't believe you little one is going to be three. Three Years Old! Where does the time go?
And that is one perfect belly you have there, Marie. And of course, inside was your perfect little son.
Give him an early birthday hug from Isabella and me.

Marie, you're so sweet! And I'm fascinated by the disappearance of your belly button! Awesome!
Thank you for posting your picture and for this wonderful post!

Man, look at that belly-button-less belly!!! I must admit it was the only time I actually got to see the insides of my belly-button when I was pregnant... Lucky me, Monet arrived on the morning of her due date! I couldn't bear another day of being pregnant. Urgh. And, BTW, my belly looked like a square cushion up my jumper. I wasn't 'round' at all. I was 'square'!

Oh my! What happened to your belly button?
This is a great idea for a virtual baby shower.

Kristi,
I know... can you believe it? I'll give him lots of extra hugs...
Lindsay,
Yeah. Some women's buttons pop out -- I've always thought that was cool. Mine simply vanished. Poof!
Melody,
Square!? Do show!!
Barbara,
Lovely, eh? I'm glad to say it's back!

ooh! How fun! Except that it's not really fun when you're DOING it currently, as thy belly button is half popped and my SheChild likes to lift up my shirt and talk to her brother in public for all to see the greatness that is thy belly. *sigh*
I'll post pics of mine in two years when I feel good about it again. ;-)
