There's a theme in my life these days: Senioritis. And I'm not talking about the kind you get in high school, two months before graduation.
Fortunately, when I go out for a walk, my feet are attached. Otherwise, I'd surely forget them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I married into a crunchy granola family.
While I was raised on the whitest of white Wonder bread, Velveeta "cheese," and TastyKakes, my husband was given fruits, grains, and non-processed, wholesome foods.
While I watched Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry, my husband did not watch any cartoons at home. Ever.
While my family made hearty contributions to landfills and the depletion of the ozone layer with disposable diapers and extensive travel, my husband's parents recycled -- long, long before it was hip to do so.
So, when my grocery store introduced a very reasonably priced reusable shopping bag a month or so
ago, I decided I was in. No more plastic bags packed with only one or two items, because that's all they can handle. No more piles of plastic bags to return to the store or to send to the landfill.
I bought a few of the bags. They're sturdy and very smart-looking. And practical. I like that. And they make a great gift for the mother-in-law!
With the bags in the back of my car at all times, they're ready to be filled up when we hit the store once or twice a week. I load up my shopping cart, with a renewed sense of waste reduction -- both food and packaging. I feel good about this. It's something small that I can do that makes a difference.
And then I get to the checkout. The bags? Are in the trunk. Again. I've remembered to use them exactly once since buying them a month ago.
Sigh.
Will someone please pass the processed cheese spread?

LOL
I hear yah on that one. I was forever forgetting mine at HOME of all places and THEN, I decided that I would put them some place where i would never forget them. On the back of the door. I even put a little note that says "Help yourself to help the earth, bring your bags."
Works like a charm everytime.

I always forget our reusable bags, too. Sometimes, I even forget that I HAVE them.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I'm hysterical because I've seen the same said bags. I, too, have thought to myself, "oh, how reasonably priced. I really ought to buy some". And then, I've immediately thought "nahh, I'll never remember to bring them to the store." Thanks for proving me right for once in my life.

We sell reusable bags as well. And I think about buying them. I know I should. But I am afraid they will suffer the same fate as yoursand b in the trunk when I need them.

I have some, and haven't used them for years. To be honest (don't tell Ed Begley), it just wasn't worth the effort. We do either recyle or re-use our paper and/or plastic bags, so I'm over the guilt thing.
I still refuse to buy Wonder Bread, though.

Well, my family was granola before the term was ever used to describe granola folks. HOWEVER, we didn't recycle.
And I NEVER can find my trader joe recycle bags. Oh well.

We've been using 'green bags' for years now over here. It is just a matter of making a habit of remembering them. Upon saying that though, I don't know how many of those bags I have bought over the years but I do love them (you can buy so many different ones!). They are good for storing stuff in, for taking out, going to the beach with etc., They are worth the A$1 they cost, even if I have bought like 50 of them!.
